A working meeting of the NATO Assessment Team (NAT) and the Head Office of State Aviation of Ukraine (HOSAU), under the auspices of the Director General of the Industrial Cooperation Division of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Czech Republic, took place on 18 – 20 July 2023.With regard to the current situation in Ukraine and based on the support of the Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic, the meeting took place on the DAP premises in Prague. The entire course of the event was coordinated and ensured by the Department of Supervision over Military Aviation (commonly known as Military Aviation Authority, MAA-CZE) of the MoD Industrial Cooperation Division. The NATO Assessment Team involved five representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance countries, including Colonel Martin Závodský, who as a member of this team represents the Czech Republic.
The meeting chaired by Mr. Stephane Coperet from France was conducted with the aim of recognizing the Ukrainian HOSAU authority in the field of airworthiness for NATO purposes and issuing a Certificate of Recognition in compliance with the airworthiness policy.
Although the talks were demanding, considering the number of the areas discussed and related rules, they were held in a very friendly atmosphere. The members of the NAT appreciated the professional level of the HOSAU representatives, the structure of the organization itself and, above all, the level of published regulations on airworthiness and their application.
The recognition process and the issuance of the NATO Certificate of Recognition is to be expected by December 2023. The Czech Republic perceives this step as part of the process that will end with Ukraine´s accession to the Alliance in the future.
